Chotanagpur Development Society, Jharkhand society is a non-profit organization developed in the year 1994. The society was created to provide a dignified source of livelihood to community women through the promotion of jute-based income-generating activities. With the issue of declining traditional art and culture in our country that has caused grievances for the artisans both economically and socially, we were inclined towards undertaking an extensive research project on:
- Understanding the pain points of artisans
- Promoting Jute substitutes over Plastic
This society has about 250 skilled artisans (majorly women workers), who tirelessly work hard to manufacture exclusive biodegradable and eco-friendly jute products. To increase awareness and market outreach about the benefits of using jute over plastic, I purchased a variety of articles from the artisans and showcased them at a renowned market Delhi Haat.
Encouraging people to start developing environmentally responsible behaviors, we aim to support the artisans and influence people to use the ‘golden fibre’ as an alternative to plastic.
